Connect With Nature and Explore the Wildlife of Scotland from Largs this Winter
As we head into the winter months a holiday is something that can help us to relax and unwind before the festive rush arrives! Embracing the wintery weather and getting away from it all is something that many people look for from a winter holiday and one of the best places to go and do this is Largs.
There are lots of things to do in Largs as you can see here https://www.localthingstodo.co.uk/locations/things-to-do-in-largs which will please the whole family, but on the theme of getting away from it all and connecting to nature, let’s have a look at some of the best places to go in the Largs area to see wildlife and enjoy the natural world as it settles down for the winter…
Pencil Bay – Head to this bay and you could well be rewarded with the sight of the local seals in the water or sleeping nearby! If you take a boat from here you may also see a larger array of marine life, as there have been sightings of dolphins, porpoises and also larger creatures such as whales and basking sharks. If you want to get out and see the wildlife on the ocean this is definitely a good place to visit.
Aisla Craig – If it is bird watching that you are looking for this is a great place to visit! One of the most endearing seabirds has a large colony here – the puffin! See them in a large group on the side of the cliff. There are also a variety of other seafaring birds, such as razorbills, guillemots, kittiwakes and shags to name but a few. The best way to experience this is by boat as you can watch the birds on the cliffs and as they take to the air.
The Coig – This beautiful area on the isle of Arran is home to many of the favourite mammals of the UK. Red squirrels can be spotted here, as well as the elusive otter (lookout for their tracks on a snowy day and the distinctive spraints too that signify an otter is in the area!). Deer are also plentiful here so you really could spot a few different animals here.
