Five high-altitude design hotels
As November comes to an end and the first snowfalls begin to whiten the peaks of the Alps, the weekend of the mountains is approaching, including design hotels, skiing days and moments of relaxation in the Spa. Here are 5 high-altitude design hotels.
An opportunity to detoxify from the rhythms of the city and to fill up with clean air and breathtaking views, but also to relax in design hotels that interpret the classic atmosphere of the chalets in a contemporary key, offering an experience of pure alpine elegance.
We have selected 5 hotels in the Alps to start planning the first weekends in the snow.
And look forward to the first escapes from the city.
Bormio: Hotel Eden
A Bormio, a design hotel that reinterprets the traditional architecture of the valleys in a contemporary key. Designed by Antonio Citterio together with Patricia Viel & Partners, the Eden Hotel consists of a series of other, narrow, wood-clad buildings dotted with large windows. The interiors, developed through the use of natural materials such as wood and leather, are characterized by furnishings with geometric lines, softened by intimate and enveloping details. The 27 rooms and suites are lined with European BIO larch wood, which helps to lower the heartbeat and help sleep. It is one of the best high-altitude design hotels.
Why we chose it: not the classic mountain holiday but a charming experience in perfect balance between urban and alpine elegance.
Austria, Hinterglemm: Hotel Wiesergut
Not far from the well-known ski resort Kitzbühel is the Hotel Wiesergut, a family-run hotel which is a perfect synthesis between the traditions of the place and the minimalist Scandinavian-inspired design. The hotel consists of a central villa and two side structures designed by Gogl & Partner Architects, which accommodate the 7 suites with private garden and indoor fireplace, in addition to the panoramic spa. The large windows of the new buildings allow a total immersion in the surrounding landscape, while the kitchen of the restaurant exclusively offers organic products from the farm connected to the hotel. It is one of the best high-altitude design hotels.
Why we chose it: ideal for those who need a decisive break from the daily rhythms and for those who want a stay of nature and relaxation.
Cervinia: Hotel Principe Delle Nevi
Managed by the Italian-Scottish James McNeil and his partner Kristin Gynnild. The Hotel Principe Delle Nevi is a small oasis of ironic elegance in Cervinia. Boasting a heated indoor and outdoor pool, the hotel offers rooms and suites that mix classic pop-chalet chalets. The design furnishings, with essential lines, are alternated with colorful and playful elements. The outdoor patio, accessible directly from the slopes, allows you to have lunch with a wonderful view of the Matterhorn.
Why we chose it: dedicated to those who want a weekend on luxury skis. And those who love a young and sparkling design.
France, Courchevel: Hotel des Trois Vallees
Built in the 50s in one of the most famous ski resorts in the Savoie. The Hotel des Trois Vallees has kept intact the post-modernist atmosphere of the time but adding young and contemporary details. This was done by Valery Grego, owner of the hotel. And the architect Gilles Leborgne, who together brought the original atmospheres of the hotel back to life. The furnishings of the period are flanked by elements with a sober and modern design. While the posters, the clippings of newspapers. And magazines adorn the walls of the rooms and suites, giving a vintage accent to the spaces. It is one of the best high-altitude design hotels.
Why we chose it: to feel like a 50s movie, staying in design rooms with a vintage flavor.
Livigno: Hotel Alexander
Recently renovated, the Alexander Hotel offers intimate settings characterized by natural materials and warm tones of brown, ocher and beige. A true oasis of relaxation that combines the traditions of the place with the elegance of refined and essential furnishings. Like those of the restaurant, a design place with a contemporary accent that offers a panoramic view of the valleys. And that combines the Valtellina cuisine with international influences. It is one of the best high-altitude design hotels.
